ICYMI: Attorney General Jones Delivers Key Message on Voting Rights at Albemarle-Charlottesville NAACP Banquet
RICHMOND, Va. – Attorney General Jay Jones addressed attendees at the annual Freedom Fund Banquet of the Albemarle-Charlottesville National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The event, which brought together civil rights and community leaders in the Piedmont region, highlighted the need to protect and defend the right to access the vote a time when thousands of Virginians have already made their voices heard and cast their ballots ahead of Election Day -- November 3, 2026.

Before becoming attorney general, Jones worked with the NAACP Virginia State Conference on voting-rights litigation. Jones told 29News that working with the organization was a highlight of his legal career and said he believed voting rights were under attack during the Youngkin administration.

“When the Trump administration demanded the unredacted voter information of our voter rolls, we fought that demand in court, and a federal judge dismissed the lawsuit,” Jones said. “Let me be clear: Virginia runs our elections well, and my job is to defend that work for every eligible voter, including people who disagree with me or will never vote for me. Their rights are my responsibility, too.”
