The Virginia Office of the Attorney General seeks an attorney with some employment law experience to support the operations of Transportation Secretariat agencies, including the Department of Transportation, Department of Motor Vehicles, and Department of Rail and Public Transportation.

EMPLOYMENT LAW AND OPERATIONS
The attorney filling this position primarily will serve as counsel to agencies within the Transportation Secretariat with respect to pre-litigation employment law issues. These issues include employment contracts, worker’s and employer’s rights, grievance, disciplinary action, conflicts of interest reviews, and policy advice. The attorney also will also supervise outside counsel on other employment matters, which may include immigration, visas, disputes, and policy matters. This employment work supports complex transportation and transit projects. As time allows, this attorney also may have the opportunity to support other agency operations and initiatives. This position is located in Richmond, but consideration can be given to working from the OAG’s Fairfax office. The position offers flexible hybrid work options and reports to the Chief of the Transportation Section. As with all positions, other duties as necessary or appropriate may also be assigned. Some overnight travel may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS: It is preferred that candidates have 1-3 years of demonstrated experience in employment law. Experience advising public entities is preferred but not required. Candidates should have the ability to communicate well with all levels of understanding regarding legal issues. Candidates must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work well within a small team of professionals. The qualified individual must be admitted to or eligible for prompt admission to the Virginia State Bar.
