TRANSPORTATION SECTION

The Transportation Section encounters an exciting and challenging array of issues while supporting the agencies and entities responsible for Virginia’s transportation network, including roads, rail, port, space, and air.  As a member of the Section, this attorney will primarily support the Department of Transportation, and will deliver a wide range of legal services, both directly and in conjunction with the Section Chief and other Assistant Attorneys General.  This position will be senior counsel for complex transactional matters (pursued mainly under the Public-Private Transportation Act), will interact with executives, opposing counsel, and will work with and monitor outside counsel representing the Commonwealth.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Familiarity with government contracting, transportation or construction law, public financing, and government administration is preferred.  Candidates should be able to communicate well with all levels of staff and management; must have excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work well within a team of professionals. Applicants must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: It is preferred that applicants have been a member of the bar for a minimum of 7 years, however, an equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the required qualifications may substitute for the membership criteria.

 

SALARY:  Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
