GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS AND TRANSACTIONS DIVISION
DUTIES: Responsibilities of the Environmental Section Chief include: supervising and administering the day-to-day operation of the Environmental Section; directing Section attorneys in the representation of agency clients in the Natural Resources, Agriculture and Forestry, and Health and Human Resources Secretariats of the Commonwealth, in judicial and administrative proceedings, regulatory review, advice and counseling, personnel matters and contracts; and providing oversight during the legislative session for appropriate review of proposed natural resources legislation. This position reports directly to the Deputy Attorney General of the Government Operations and Transactions Division and serves as a senior supervisor accountable for the performance, training and evaluation of all Environmental Section attorneys and support staff.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate for the Senior Assistant Attorney General, Chief position will have at least ten years of relevant subject matter experience, including a demonstrated ability to analyze and manage complex cases in state and federal courts and to advise agencies through rulemakings and permitting. Demonstrated leadership ability is required along with excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to effectively manage administrative tasks related to supervisory role. Candidate must be admitted to the Virginia State Bar.
SALARY: Starting salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
