The attorneys, based on the campus of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, will serve the Attorney General under the direction of the Chief of the Education Section and the University Counsel, and will provide representation and a wide variety of legal services to the University.  The University of Virginia is comprised of eleven schools in Charlottesville, an academic medical center, plus the College at Wise in Southwest Virginia.  The University of Virginia’s renowned academic medical center is committed to providing outstanding patient care, educating tomorrow's health care leaders and discovering new and better ways to treat diseases.  The University's Medical Center, School of Medicine and School of Nursing are recognized for their excellence in patient care, education and research.

 

 

DUTIES: It is anticipated that these attorneys will handle a broad range of legal matters, serving all divisions of the institution, in coordination with the other attorneys in the Office of University Counsel. An area of emphasis for both positions will be legal matters involving the University’s academic medical center, including research and patient care functions. These attorneys will be required to provide regulatory advice concerning academic research, grants and contracts, health care regulations and statutory compliance. Additionally, these individuals will provide other legal services to the University and the Commonwealth as directed by the University Counsel and the Office of the Attorney General.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidates will have excellent analytical abilities and written and oral communication skills and be able to respond to legal requests in a timely fashion.  A minimum of five years of experience in the general practice of law is required. Preference will be given to applicants with specific experience in the representation of health care providers or higher education institutions.  Excellent interpersonal skills are also required. High level organizational skills and an ability to manage many projects simultaneously and work under pressure are required. Must be admitted to the Virginia bar or eligible for immediate admission.

 

 

SALARY:  Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
