CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND PUBLIC SAFETY DIVISION
SEXUALLY VIOLENT PREDATORS CIVIL COMMITMENT SECTION

 

DUTIES: Provide paralegal support to the Section Chief and attorneys in the Sexually Violent Predators Civil Commitment Section including conducting legal research; case management; the preparation, citation checking and filing of appellate briefs in the Virginia Supreme Court; investigating and researching background information on jurors and witnesses; and identifying and obtaining records from agencies within and outside the Commonwealth.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful applicant must have a competent working knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures and case management systems. Must have well-developed written and oral communication skills, proficiency in time management, the ability to work independently and as a team member, and the ability to organize and analyze large quantities of written and verbal information. Must have the ability to work well under pressure and to adjust priorities without close supervision. Litigation paralegal experience of at least three years is required and a bachelor's degree in a related field or Paralegal Certificate is preferred. However, an equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the required qualifications may substitute for educational criteria. A solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Lexis, cite-checking and Accurint is required.

 

SALARY:  Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
