After revealing the truth behind the lies gangs tell in regards to money,
protection, family, etc, and explaining the benefit and availability of mentors
and positive activities, and how to find these resources, ‘The Big
Lie’ arms kids with the exact words they need to say “no” to
gangs and offers advice for when they are approached by gang recruiters. Not
only do kids give other kids ways to say no to gang recruiters, but also
gang members tell kids what they should do if someone approaches them about
joining a gang: tell them “no,” walk away, and speak up by confiding
in a trusted adult!
