The Virginia Office of the Attorney General is seeking a Counseling, Intake and Referral Unit Manager for its Consumer Protection Section.   We offer the challenge and opportunity of public service, a professional environment, and competitive salaries and benefits.

OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL
CONSUMER PROTECTION SECTION
CIVIL LITIGATION DIVISION

DUTIES:  This individual will be responsible for managing staff within the Unit who provide information to citizens who call into the Office's Consumer Protection Hotline, evaluate the written complaints the Unit receives and assign those complaints for internal handling or referral to other state or federal agencies, and provide consumer education and outreach.  Duties include directing staff in handling telephone inquiries and in the initial review and disposition of consumer complaints; communicating with local, state and federal officials, businesses and the general public for purposes of gathering and/or providing information about existing consumer protection laws and the various agencies responsible for receiving and handling specific types of complaints; generating reports from a consumer complaint database; working with database developers and making recommendations to satisfy the needs of database users; and coordinating and conducting periodic public speaking and community outreach on consumer education topics.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Preferred candidates will possess a B.A. or B.S. college degree in business administration, public administration, political science/government, economics or a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training in consumer protection law and/or regulatory enforcement.   Qualified candidates should have extensive knowledge and experience in customer service, consumer protection laws, and the local, state and federal agencies with consumer protection enforcement and regulatory responsibilities; well developed oral and written communication skills; responsive customer service strategies and planning/organizational skills; the ability to plan and prioritize objectives to achieve results; and the ability to effectively motivate, coach, lead and manage personnel.  Candidates should have a proven ability to interact effectively with local, state and federal government officials, a diverse workforce, and the general public.  Preferred candidates will be familiar with consumer complaint or similar databases.  Proficiency using personal computers is required.

SALARY: This is a salaried, non-exempt, position with full state benefits.  Starting salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
